Dog School

Recall Foundations

A recall cue should not begin its life in conflict. Start with easy wins, fast rewards, and very short distances.

What matters most

  • Use a cue that has not been poisoned by repetition.
  • Pay heavily for fast turns and movement toward you.
  • Do not call the dog away from impossible distractions yet.

Working sequence

  1. Work on a long line or indoors first.
  2. Reward movement toward you, not just arrival.
  3. End before the cue starts feeling optional.
